WHAT TO EXPECT DURING TRYOUTS:
SBSL typically holds tryouts for its travel baseball teams from 8U through 14U levels at the conclusion of the summer season. Players can anticipate to showcase their skills in pitching (if applicable), fielding, batting and baserunning. All players are encouraged to wear appropriate baseball clothing including cleats and bring a glove, bat, helmet, and water.
WHY SHOULD YOU CONSIDER TRAVEL BASEBALL?
Travel baseball entails a meaningful commitment to the game. Players that try out should have a love for the game and a desire to continually improve and compete.
WHERE ARE GAMES PLAYED?
Skokie travel baseball teams participate in the Lake Shore Feeder Baseball League. Teams compete against travel teams from Glenview, Wilmette, Evanston, Lake Forest, Park Ridge, and other north suburban communities. Teams also participate in tournaments. Skokie travel baseball players also may participate in a community (house) league in the fall. Please see the bat rules section of the website to determine eligible bats for your child's age bracket.
WHAT IS THE TIME & FINANCIAL COMMITMENT?
Indoor practices typically begin in January and will be one to two times per week. Players practice over the winter months and into spring to prepare for formidable competition. Games begin in April & May, with tournaments starting once the school year is complete. Travel time commitment during the season is typically 3-4 days per week. The financial commitment are estimated at $700 per season for ages 8U-13U, $800 per season for 14U, and $1,500-$2,000 per season for 15U. The league and the teams do try to host fundraisers to help offset travel costs throughout the season.
For age groups 8U-10U:
All other age groups (8U-14U) will play in the Lake Shore Feeder League and play two tournaments over the course of the season. Travel teams may also play during the Fall Season (games on weekends only) from mid-August through mid-October.
